Every April, communities across the nation come together to celebrate Fair Housing Month. This year marks the 56th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act of 1968, a landmark civil rights law that prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, and familial status.  

The Fair Housing Act was a pivotal moment in the fight for equal access to housing. Prior to its passage, many individuals and families faced discrimination when trying to rent or buy a home.
